Meet Bilal who works on our Engineering team as a Software Engineer. Read below to learn more about his time at Nextdoor!
Why did you join Nextdoor?
Driven by my passion to leverage my technical skills to cultivate a kinder world, joining the Nextdoor community was a no brainer. I fell in love with the vibrant workplace culture that emphasizes collective ownership, trust amongst each other, and zeal for empowering communities everywhere. Collaborating alongside world-class engineers, designers, and product managers as a New Grad engineer granted me endless learning and growth opportunities at Nextdoor!
What’s been one of your favorite projects to work on?
During our company-wide hackathon where everyone has the opportunity to design and pitch a new feature within days, my team and I proposed a new reimagined homepage. After it was voted as the audience’s favorite idea, we quickly went on to develop the new homepage. The newly reimagined homepage would be minimal, representative, inclusive, and welcoming. Since our neighbors and their stories are the most important part of our platform, we wanted to show our visitors what Nextdoor is all about! Our project exemplifies Nextdoor’s values of experimenting and learning quickly.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work? (Pre-COVID & During COVID)?
Our team hosts weekly movie discussions and Friday game nights, where competition gets intense if we are playing Among Us. Outside of work, you can find me exploring New York City, learning to cook, hiking across landscapes, dancing salsa, or running around my neighborhood.
