Meet Zach who works on our Engineering team as a Software Engineer. Read below to learn more about his time at Nextdoor!
Why did you join Nextdoor?
Nextdoor’s mission of building kinder neighborhoods really resonated with me! During my interviews, everyone was (and still are) super nice and welcoming and I really enjoy working with my team. I also wanted to work on Python and React.js and I get to do that every day!
What’s been one of your favorite projects to work on?
Recently, I rewrote our internal tool for moderating our Groups feature. I was in charge of the project from beginning to end and it felt great improving something that is critical to the workflow of our moderation agents. I’m still thinking of improvements/tweaks that can still be made.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work? (Pre-COVID & During COVID)?
I like powerlifting at my local gym. Videogame-wise, I play a lot of Old School Runescape, Pokémon, and whatever fun co-op games my fianceé and I can find. I also enjoy hiking on the weekend.
Most memorable moment at Nextdoor?
Our recent IPO was an incredible achievement and a great memory! I’m proud of how far we have come to get here.
Best career advice?
General Advice: Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want. Programming Advice: Be more stubborn than the computer.
Where is your favorite place in the world?
Koh Yao Noi. It’s a small island in Thailand and it is where I got engaged. I really want to go back some day!
Favorite way to give back to your local community?
Shopping locally. There are so many good places to eat around Richmond. There is also a great shop near my house called “Plant House” where I get succulents and planting supplies.
