Employee Spotlights

Employee Spotlight: Meet David

Written by #TeamNextdoor

Meet David, our Procurement to Pay Specialist. Read below to learn more about his time at Nextdoor!

Why did you join Nextdoor?

When I joined Nextdoor 3 years ago, I was at a stage in my life where I was starting to build a life worth living. I felt isolated and stuck in a hamster wheel where work and achievements were glorified over family, neighbors, and kindness, but interviewing with Nextdoor was a breath of fresh air. I knew instantly I had to join after meeting the team. Besides, who wouldn’t want to cultivate a kinder world where everyone has a neighborhood they can rely on?

What’s been one of your favorite projects to work on?

If I had to choose, it would be the Workday ERP Implementation in 2020, the Procurement Process Rollout in 2022, and the ongoing wiki project for the whole accounting/finance org. The ERP Implementation was a key project for public company readiness, and even more special since the bulk of the work was done remotely. The Procurement Process provides visibility and a detailed level of information in order for us to operate most strategically as a public company. It’s a constant challenge driving change management at a recently launched public company, but the project I’m working on will help relieve any confusion for employees.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? (Pre-COVID & During COVID)?

Outside of work, I like to tend to my garden and volunteer at the local SPCA training dogs with behavioral issues. I have had over 50+ kinds of plants, but am focusing more this year on fruits – the strawberries are already popping up like crazy! I’m a big fan of basketball and skateboarding, and you can usually find me at the local park on any given day.

Most memorable moment at Nextdoor?

My most memorable moment at Nextdoor has to be when I sat in the first row where Prakash, one of our co-founders, was interviewing Andre Iguodala in our old office. There was a book signing after the interview where I asked him why his arms were so big and we shared a laugh together.

Best career advice?

Find the people that advocate for you and stick with them. Don’t let emotions control what you do. Always be kind.

Where is your favorite place in the world?

Cabo San Lucas!

Favorite way to give back to your local community?

I’ve been fundraising for Ukraine in April selling strawberry plants and offering green-thumb tips to neighbors and the community. I have a couple more fundraisers planned to support the AAPI Heritage month for May.
