Employee Spotlight: Meet Tim

Written by #TeamNextdoor

Meet Tim Richards, our Head of Global Sales! Read more to learn about his time at Nextdoor.

Why did you join Nextdoor?

I joined Nextdoor to make an impact and I knew how much the company values connecting neighborhoods all over the word. It’s a pretty compelling and rare combination when your skills and passions align with the goals of an organization.

What has been one of your favorite projects to work on?

The first was going to CES (Consumer Technology Association Event) with a small but mighty team, to test messaging in many client meetings. It was great to do this with smart, experienced people who enjoyed thinking on their feet, and loved getting real-time feedback from the market.

My other favorite project has been working with our ad solutions team to structure executive ride-alongs, to shed light on the actual process of running a managed service ad campaign on Nextdoor. This has led to a very healthy discourse rooted in details, appreciation and perspective.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I love relaxing with my family. My wife Michele and I are approaching a significant wedding anniversary this year and I’m lucky to spend my life with her. My youngest child, Grant, is a senior in high school, so I’m enjoying every moment I can with him before he goes off to college. Outside of family, I love sports of all kinds, and participate mostly in skiing and golf. I find a lot of peace working in my garden too.

Most memorable moment at Nextdoor?

One of my most memorable moments was celebrating my birthday in New York with our team there. It felt like hanging out with old friends, and it made me feel like I made the right choice to join Nextdoor.

Best career advice?

A few pieces of advice come to mind: “Be an artist, not a critic.” You have to be intentional about how you grow, learn, and evolve, it is not a passive process. Lastly, find joy in your work, even when work is hard.

Where is your favorite place in the world?

My favorite place has to be Le Marais in Paris. My daughter lives there and spending time together with her there was magical.

What is your favorite way to give back to your local community?

Give back to communities by checking in on your neighbors, that’s the best way to get to know them and develop relationships. Also, be a good citizen in your town by contributing to make things better.
