Meet Frank Sperry, one of our Tech Recruiting Leads. Read more to learn about his time at Nextdoor.
Why did you join Nextdoor?
I joined Nextdoor for the people, mission, and opportunity to impact neighborhoods across the globe. Nextdoor’s purpose deeply resonated with me and when I interviewed with Prakash, one of the co-founders, and Bryan, the Head of People, that said it all. It felt surreal to know that these leaders were taking time out of their day to interview me and it really meant a lot. Lastly, the opportunity to work with, and hire people that would help build communities all over the world is not an opportunity you get at a lot of companies. I don’t write the code, but I get to hire people who are passionate about bringing these ideas to life.
What has been one of your favorite projects to work on?
My absolute favorite project has been to help grow the mobile organization from 13 people to over 50 people in just a few years. This project means a lot to me because I’ve personally felt a contribution to the growth of the company.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work I have many hobbies. I like to hike, run, travel for food, go fishing, and recently started learning to DJ.
Most memorable moment at Nextdoor?
During my four years at Nextdoor, I’ve had so many great memories, but my favorite has to be the helping build out our engineering team over the years. It’s been very rewarding to establish such great relationships with candidates and hiring teams.
Best career advice?
Don’t expect to learn everything in your first year of work. Also, find a good work life balance early in your career – work can wait, but life will pass you by if you let it.
Where is your favorite place in the world?
My favorite place would be the porch of a cabin on a lake. Doesn’t matter where, but that’s my happy place.
What is your favorite way to give back to your local community?
Most of the time when I go on walks, I bring a trash bag and a trash grabber so I can keep our neighborhood clean.
