Meet Mia McConnell, a Product Manager on the team. Read more to learn about her time at Nextdoor.
Why did you join Nextdoor?
I joined Nextdoor because of its people and mission. I saw an opportunity to learn from a skilled and passionate team tackling hard problems. I was also driven by the desire to create products that positively impact the world, and I believe Nextdoor achieves this by strengthening communities in a time when its needed most.
What has been one of your favorite projects to work on?
My favorite project to work on has to be Neighborhood Faves, which is Nextdoor’s annual awards program where neighbors vote and local businesses are the winners. It was so fun and rewarding to bring this delightful experience to life in product, work closely with the GTM team, and help millions of local businesses across the US. The best part of this project is now walking into my favorite coffee shop, bagel place, or hardware store and seeing the “2023 Neighborhood Fave” sticker on their window.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work, I love spending time with my friends and family, trying new restaurants and recipes, running, and really anything outdoors. I grew up in California so I’m always happy if I’m headed to the beach, on a hike, or having a picnic in the park.
Most memorable moment at Nextdoor?
My most memorable moment was having the opportunity to go to the New York Stock Exchange to celebrate some of the businesses that won Neighborhood Fave by ringing the bell. The best part was seeing how much the recognition meant to the local businesses.
Best career advice?
People > everything else. If you get to work with smart, passionate, and kind people whom you admire and enjoy being with, you will never stop learning and growing while having fun.
Where is your favorite place in the world?
San Francisco Bay Area! I’m biased because this is home to me, but I love that I can go to the beach, mountains, or city all within a short drive.
