Meet Reesha Howard, our Product Marketing Lead and Multicultural Engagement Lead. Read more to learn about her time at Nextdoor.
Why did you join Nextdoor?
Community is life-sustaining and working at Nextdoor is affording me opportunities to build progress. With a deep understanding of community dynamics, I am contributing unique and forward-thinking ideas on how to enhance our sense of togetherness in this digitally-connected era.
What has been one of your favorite projects to work on?
I conceptualized and initiated the development of Nextdoor AMP, a program consisting of a cohort of influential leaders in local communities across the U.S. and this work is deeply meaningful for me. Highlighting and supporting the countless ways that Black and Brown people pour the best of themselves into others and the betterment of their communities brings me joy. We deserve to be seen, acknowledged, and celebrated.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
There are many ways I fill my tank and find joy. Weekend brunch, audiobooks, family outings, comedic relief, couch time with friends, and thought-provoking documentaries (along with trash TV, for razzle-dazzle) are some of my faves.
Most memorable moment at Nextdoor?
I’d say it’s more like an ongoing series of moments. Each time I meet a colleague who has amazing energy, is open to seeing things from a new angle and loves to collaborate, my decision to join Nextdoor is reaffirmed. There are some genuinely dope people at this company and there is a lot we can learn from one another.
Best career advice?
Honor your true self. Each of us has unique characteristics and quirks that define who we are, and it’s important not to lose sight of that. Losing those qualities means the world loses them too. The key to unlocking innovation lies in embracing your distinctiveness. Be the best version of yourself and let the world adapt to you. Owning your identity will always attract the RIGHT people and can inspire similar honesty in others, making our work more effective.
Where is your favorite place in the world?
Home. It’s a source of peace and solace for my family and I. We are extremely close and love to spend quality time together.
What is your favorite way to give back to your local community?
I am not big on propping myself up for doing things for others and like to keep the details private unless it serves to build awareness for a specific cause, so I will say it’s simply being a good neighbor. If I see a need that should be met, I do whatever I can to do so. I try to be a friendly face because even that can go a very long way for people.
