Why did you join Nextdoor?
My first day providing direct engineering support as a contract recruiter, I met two co-founders (David Wiesen and Prakash Janakiraman), and Antonio Silveira, our Head of Engineering. They were thoroughly engaging and committed to Nextdoor’s principle of kindness, while embracing the enormous and rewarding challenges ahead. I decided, in that moment, if leadership embraces this and effectively permeates this passion throughout the organization, that this is the place I want to spend my professional life.
What has been one of your favorite projects to work on?
I’ve had the opportunity to engage with the Black employee resource group here at Nextdoor (B@ND). It’s been a blast to participate in projects that get company-wide visibility. Some examples include presenting Black joy-inspired information at our All Hands presentations and sharing BBQ tips for all to enjoy.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love sports, although these old knees can only handle golf these days! I spend TONS of time outside, walking, hiking, golfing, or just sitting on a patio and enjoying not being inside. I also love to spend time with my kiddos as well!
Most memorable moment at Nextdoor?
My absolute best memory was when I joined Nextdoor as a direct employee after having been a contractor for over a year. Getting such a warm, excited welcome from people I had supported just confirmed how lucky I was to get the full-time offer shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic had started.
Best career advice?
Focus on where you want to do what you do as much as on getting better at what you do. You’ll be your best when you are doing what you do well, where you want to do it.
Where is your favorite place in the world?
Any links-style golf course!
What is your favorite way to give back to your local community?
I spent years working with a children’s food insecurity organization that I find very rewarding.
